This is it: Day 2

WARNING: I’ve decided to document my time in isolation daily as far as poss, mainly to hold myself accountable & keep myself sane. Keeping tabs on stuff in a written format I find quite therapeutic but I must apologise because I imagine this is going to make for quite dull reading. But we shall see. You never know. Even Anne Franks diary was mundane in places. In a century’s time when they look back on this epoch this could be literary gold.

It could!

Keep an open mind!

FYI I live on my own, I’m single, I’m self employed & all my work has been cancelled. I have few friends in the area & my parents who live locally are in the vulnerable category so I’m basically voluntarily self-isolating minus the symptoms & doing my bit by staying indoors as much as possible.

Also it’s worth mentioning that this is a very light-hearted account of what is going on currently. I don’t mean to trivialise the situation & I appreciate that for many people this is a truly dire time economically, & health-wise many people are at risk & are being effected.  For my own sanity I prefer not to engage in the news too much & I get my only little tidbits of info from either my Mums anxious Watsapping or memes I come across on social media. As a consequence this diary is quite sheltered from the harsh realities of what is going on & is a reflection of my own personal bubble. My thoughts & prayers are with every single person out there struggling & if I can do anything I am available, I’m just here balancing suitcases on my head all day trying to stay out of trouble. Get in touch xx

Todays favourite memes:

Spent much of last night doing a three hour virtual pub quiz via Watsapp with my Rabble community where my team came a woeful fourth out of five. Was fun though, even if questions were insanely difficult. Thanks for that Paul. Kudos if you can answer ANY of this sample:

A. Where is the tittle in tittle or the titulus in titulus located?

B. What was made up of 4 or 5 balls at the end of the 19th century, 8 balls during WWII in England & until 1979 in Australia but is now made up of 6 worldwide?

C. What kind of dog does one associate with Noel Coward?

Answers on a postcard.

Sidenote: if anyone is interested in a virtual pub quiz get in touch as I am happy to help coordinate. It was pretty cool working in teams & submitting answers then protesting at point deductions etc. Call me.

Post quiz I ended up getting stuck into some writing & I’m pleased to say it’s taking shape. Yay! Lots more dating stories coming soon. Oooooh!

Only thing is I didn’t get up until noon after a 4 am bedtime. Can’t tell if it’s jet-lag or if I’m just a natural night owl. Pre holiday my alarm was going off daily at 5 am leading to 9 pm bedtimes so this is quite unusual for me. Need to get to bed at sane time tonight.

Still progress is happening. I have cut my jam consumption in half, though it is only 7 pm so there is still a risk.

Yesterday I’d started the day the same way as today with a bowl of cereal with blueberries, then brunched on a naan bread with 2 soft fried eggs on top ( if I haven’t told you about this yet then blimin’ well get on board, it’s magnifico. Get the coriander & garlic naans, plenty of them available in Co-Op last I checked, just delicious. Very Dishoom but fraction of the price) But then things took a wrong turn when I opened up the long life pittas which were meant to be on emergency standby until mid April. Over the course of the afternoon I had three pittas with strawberry jam, though the last was more jam with a side of pitta, the ratio was so out of kilter. My sweet tooth really kicked in a gear. Plus, & this was super duper naughty, another pitta with a whole can of beans! Beans are a solid canned staple I don’t know what I was thinking. I have fresh ingredients waiting to be cooked in the fridge. I must cook properly tomorrow. I must.

Even so that is still an improvement on night before. Immediately after I brought the scavenged goods home from the supermarket, I ate an ENTIRE pack of Fox’s chunkie cookies, plus not one, not two, not even three… but FOUR hot cross buns with increasingly large dollops of strawberry jam – that was how depressed I was at being home. I genuinely was regretting coming back & was contemplating hopping on a plane to Rio in the morning after discovering their president has a slacker attitude to Covid-19 than our sad excuse for a prime minister BoZo BoJo. I know deep down home is the right place for me right now but I do have to keep reminding myself. My modelling jobs have all been cancelled until further notice so normally I would be jumping at the chance to travel overseas. I don’t like taking time off ordinarily when I have modelling commitments (Panama was a big exception) so I normally restrict myself purely to weekends away unless it’s Xmas & New Year when the office closes, or an exceptionally tantalising proposition like I guess Panama was. When we go back to work I’ll be tied up again & will feel the need to catch-up so god only know when I’ll be able to holiday again. But obviously now anywhere is a poor time to be away. Not that it felt like that in Colombia a few nights ago, I was conga-ing with the best of them.

IMG_6868

Genuinely not a care in the world. No one was even talking about it. Not until I got stopped at the arsing airport. Corona is just a brand of tap over there. But I guess that is changing. Heard just now that Brazil is even locking up so here is definitely safest place to be. I was feeling bit lonely out there on my own anyway plus the expense of it. Funny how I keep having to justify it to myself…

In any case it ended up being quite a sunny day today which eased the pain a little considering I was bathed in 33 degree heat not that long ago. I texted a few friends from the balcony, one of which I am tempted to engage in flanter with (flirty banter) but I am trying not to. He is not a boyfriend candidate. I just miss boy bants I guess. A detox will prob do me good though, I shall prevail. Stay strong. I reached out (so American I know, reached out, yuk) to my neighbour to try get some free WiFi but he said it’s not working given the strain the service is under right now which was a bit alarming since he is with Virgin Media – the same people I have just signed a 12 month contract with starting tomorrow! That could be seriously aggravating. I believe they have 2 week cancellation period though so I shall be exercising my consumer rights if necessary. Instead neighbour Jack invited me for coffee but I declined because I wasn’t sure of corona etiquette & also because we should surely save awkward neighbour coffee for when we really need it in about a months time, no?

Thereafter I spent best part of an hour plucking my grey hairs out. Spent an inordinate amount of time balancing a suitcase on my head then rewarding myself with another jam pitta.

The suitcase challenge was a great initiative brought to me by my Rabble gang (social group exercise – check them out at http://www.joinrabble.com once this whole apocalyptic phase is over) Group leader Jo has been setting daily tasks & people responses have just been bloody amazing. It’s a daily highlight. Today’s challenge was to balance a big thing on your head for 10 seconds & I spent well over an hour digging deep into my Indian roots & finally conquering my giant suitcase; just felt really good to knuckle down & achieve a goal you know… lol so worthwhile.

Sadly wasn’t enough to win todays challenge, Jim quite rightly took the prize…

Honestly this lot has become such a fountain of  creativity I’ve been gobsmacked. This virus could actually be the making of humankind, we are going to be so much more creative, kind & patient on the other side of this. Not to mention the incredible remote work options that are going to open up. Life is never going to be the same again.

In any case yesterdays task was to recreate a memorable scene from a movie & just check out these entries – amazing. People are astounding me with their ingenuity. See if you can guess the films.

After coming down from my suitcase success I walked to the shop slowly to get some emergency supplies for my mum which is basically going to be her Mothers day gift this year. Oh yeah… 2 bags of rice spoil yourself Mama dearest. Then I put up a poster in the hallway saying I was available for help to my neighbours. Then had another jam pitta.

I swear I’m never buying jam ever again. Its just so alluring.

Ooo & I finished a bog roll too. For some reason I couldn’t bring myself to bin the empty tube so it is on the kitchen window sill, quite why I guess only time shall tell. Maybe I’ll have a Blue Peter moment.

Also I randomly bought some balloons at the shop & have started a Spotify playlist for my first IG live dance party which I’m hosting tomorrow night live from my living room. Oooo what should one wear?!

Ps it’s now 8.40pm & predictably I’ve eaten another jam pitta which puts me on an equal footing with yesterdays god awful stats. It’s the last one & the end of the jam too so I’m actually patting myself on the sunburnt back & considering it up there with my suitcase balancing achievement of today.  Job well done. Bye jam bye.

Pps Below is a list of home schooling resources I came across via another group I am in – the stoics if you are interested, & could be really useful for those of you with kids. Feel free to copy & circulate yourselves too. Be warned standby for a long scroll – there’s A LOT.

Ok, so LOTS of parents are suddenly home with their kiddos…

We have always home schooled after I was a classroom teacher for more than a decade, so I say WELCOME and let me help you.😉

A few things to remember, this is a PERFECT time to make memories with your children and learn things beyond “normal” math and reading.

This is a great time to really help your child dig in and spend hours doing or learning something that they love or are passionate about.

Don’t forget that there are TONS of documentaries on the streaming services that they might enjoy and learn a lot from.

Here are links that I have gathered to TONS of free fun learning options for all ages from toddlers to AP students to adults. Some are always free and some are only free during this current situation👇

I am making this post public, so feel free to share it far and wide.😍 If you know of a resource for FREE education (either permanent or only during this time) please share it in the comments.
